wendy
Born in the great city of Mexico City, Wendy moved to Santa Ana, California, with her parents at the age of 11 due to health and political circumstances. Her mother was searching for a better quality of life for her family, and they came here determined to build a better future.
She never liked school, even though she earned good grades. Always hyperactive and social, she often found herself in the principal’s office. Music, however, had always been her greatest companion. As an only child with an eclectic musician father whose influences ranged from The Beatles and Deep Purple to José José and Juan Gabriel, Wendy developed an incredibly diverse musical taste—from classical music to Metal Goregrind.
She also always loved to dance. Listening to and watching videos of Michael Jackson, Mónica Naranjo, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Fey, Gloria Trevi, Selena, and many others, she would spend hours singing and dancing in front of the mirror, even recreating Britney Spears’ choreography during middle school.
During her teenage years and rebellious phase in the United States, she discovered heavy metal, including bands such as Cradle of Filth and Metallica. At 15, she formed a band, singing original songs as well as Spanish-language rock by groups such as Hombres G and Caifanes, among others.
After more than 20 years in music—not consecutively—and having performed with original and tribute bands honoring artists such as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Dio, and Rainbow, Wendy is now recovering from physical injuries sustained through her work in music, animal care, and various sports. She continues recording songs for social media and performing tributes to artists such as Selena, Amy Winehouse, and Michael Jackson.
Wendy has loved animals since she was a little girl and has always dreamed of having a sanctuary of her own.
In 2019, she appeared in two episodes of the television show Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento, hoping to win enough money to start her sanctuary. Although she did not win, the experience became a once-in-a-lifetime moment. She received high praise from judges Ana Bárbara and Chiquis Rivera.
That same year, Wendy began reconnecting with her Indigenous roots and working to decolonize her mind, searching for ways of thinking and living that could benefit the collective. Inspired by artists such as Ana Tijoux, Residente, and Nina Simone, and through a deeper understanding of the necessity of art and love in this world, she began living her life with intention.
Also in 2019, she started her own business, providing anesthesia-free dental cleanings for dogs and cats.
Today, Wendy lives with her seven rescued cats and two senior adopted dogs, alongside her friend and fellow animal-rescue partner.
With DACA allowing her to continue pursuing the dreams she had as a child, Wendy, now 37 years old, continues caring for animals, singing, dancing, and speaking about justice. Through it all, she remains deeply grateful to her parents for their sacrifices and for the support they have given her throughout her life—from Tenochtitlan to Santa Ana, California.
