Every time a musician migrates, they do more than cross a border. They carry a story with them.
Their songs, their roots, their memories, the teachings of those who came before them, and a unique way of understanding and living through music all travel with them. In every instrument, every melody, and every stage, there is a piece of where they came from.
But many of these stories remain unheard.
La Resistencia Migrante Sonora is a documentary series created to listen to, document, and preserve the stories of migrant musicians who have built their lives far from home while keeping their cultural identity alive through music.
Each episode enters the life of an artist: their journey, their roots, the paths that led them to migrate, the challenges they faced, and the music that became a form of resistance, memory, and belonging.
We do not simply want to tell people who they are. We want to understand what they left behind, what they found along the way, and what they are leaving behind for the generations to come.
Over time, this series aims to become a living archive of migrant musical memory, bringing together new voices, stories, photographs, recordings, and testimonies from musicians, artists, composers, producers, educators, and cultural promoters.
Because when a generation disappears, its stories can disappear with it.
La Resistencia Migrante Sonora exists to make sure that does not happen, so these voices remain, so their songs continue to travel.
And so that, one day, those who come after us can hear where we came from.
